Review
"[This book] presents issues that influence educators serving students whose perspectives and experiences differ from their own and offers innovative and appropriate strategies to create learning environments that promote respect and equity for all students. [It] addresses the challenges of many special populations, including those of at-risk, gifted and talented, learning disabled, English language acquisitions, and more." (Angela Lin, Teacher Support and Assessment Specialist 2005-10-21)

"Dr. Delgado Gaitan has provided a wonderful resource to all educators. The topics used to structure the chapters provide the reader with an orderly consideration of the school as a cultural entity itself. Most importantly, each chapter provides the reader with clear theoretical applications in a hands-on manner that is meaningful and easy to use."

(Randall B. Lindsey, Professor Emeritus, California State University Los Angeles 2005-10-20)

"Dr. Gaitan brings a wealth of personal experience and years of research to Building Culturally Responsive Classrooms. It is thought provoking and challenges us to get to know and understand how culture affects students in order to foster the best working and learning environment." (Judy M. Alva, Elementary Vice Principal 2005-10-31)

"The reflection and application section are excellent and are an excellent springboard to discussion and debriefing among the staff." (Susan Stone Kessler, Assistant Principal 2005-10-15)

"This book will be valuable in both teacher preparation programs and in-service professional development as a tool to help teachers grapple with the practical complexities of culture in their work with children and families." (Rosemary Henze, Associate Professor 2005-11-28)

Probably one of the best book a teacher coud read
By Emily Gomez
As a teacher, or anyone for that matter, who is with diverse people all day this is the book for you. Although it is a short book, if read with an open mind can absorb a lot of food for thought.

Great book, easy read.

A start...
By Golden
This book raises the issues, but the multicultural exercises for classroom use are weak and nothing more than I've already figured out myself in various graduate classes I have had to create lesson plans for. I'd say the exercises are lacking in imagination. Though, as I said above, the issues raised are certainly worth the read.

" A piece of Art to the Educational Field"
By Alfredo Coria
Intriguing, rich in firsthand experiences, well-written, informative, educational and culturally sensitive are a few words to describe Building Culturally Responsive Classrooms. This book helped me comprehend the importance of acknowledging an individual's culture in order to enrich their knowledge. It reinforces why the "No Child Left Behind Act" is a legislation that undermines a person's culture, keeping him or her from succeeding!

Building Culturally Responsive Classrooms is a "piece of art" that all teachers should read!
