About the Author
Author/Editor Description: Janet Newman is Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Policy, University of Birmingham. She is co-author of 'The Managerial State' (with J Clarke, SAGE 97), author of 'Shaping Organisational Cultures in Local Government' (96), and co-editor of 'Gender, Culture and Organisational Change (with C Itzin, eds, 95).

My research interests include gender and the police, violence and integrity and ethics in the criminal justice system. I’m also interested in ethnographic research methods, danger, fear and situations where privileged access leads to dilemmas for researchers. In the past I have published articles on police informers and the way they are regulated and the effect of this upon rights and justice. More recently I’ve completed a book about research methods in criminology. My other recent research projects have included studying women bouncers and violence in the context of social control of the night time economy (ESRC Grant reference: RES-000-23-0384-A). This project was called Women on the Door: Female Bouncers in the New Night-time Economy carried out with Professor Dick Hobbs.

About the Author
Jane A. G. Kise, Ed. D., is an educational consultant, specializing in teambuilding, coaching, and professional development. She is also the author or coauthor of over 20 books, including Differentiated Coaching: A Framework for Helping Teachers Change; Differentiated School Leadership: Effective Collaboration, Communication and Change Through Personality Type; Intentional Leadership; and LifeKeys: Discover Who You are. She holds an MBA in finance from the Carlson School of Management and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, both in Minnesota. Kise has worked with diverse organizations across the United States and in Saudi Arabia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Her clients include Minneapolis Public Schools and various public and private schools, The Bush Foundation, NASA, Twin Cities Public Television, and numerous other institutions. She is a frequent workshop speaker and has presented at Learning Forward, ASCD, NCTM, NCSM, World Futures, and Association for Psychological Type International (APTi) conferences, including keynoting in Paris, Berlin, Sydney and Auckland. Kise’s research on coaching teachers for change received several awards. Her research on patterns in Jungian type and how students approach mathematics became a TEDx talk. She is a faculty member of the Center for Applications of Psychological Type and a past president of APTi.

About the Author
Margaret Clark is Emeritus Professor in the School of History Philosophy and International Relations. Before joining the staff of Victoria University she taught in Malaysian, Australian and North American universities. In conjunction with the Stout Research Centre and the Association of former Members of Parliament she has organised a series of conferences and publications on New Zealand political leaders. She maintains an interest in Southeast Asian as well as New Zealand politics. For many years she co-ordinated the Programme's first year and Honours programmes. In 2006 Professor Clark was appointed Distinguished Companion of the NZ Order of Merit, redesignated Dame Companion in 2009. In 2010 Victoria University conferred on Margaret Clark the status and title of Emeritus Professor in recognition of her career of valued and distinguished service to the University.

Tim Waller is Editor of this book, and Professor of Child and Family Studies at Anglia Ruskin University. The majority of the contributors are based at the University of Northampton, and this is very much a team book.

About the Author

Michael Ungar received a Ph.D. in Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University in 1995. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Maritime School of Social Work at Dalhousie University, Canada. He has published articles in such journals as Adolescence, Youth & Society, Qualitative Social Work, Social Service Review, the Journal of Systemic Therapies, and Child & Youth Care Forum. Dr. Ungar has been researching, writing, and teaching about resilience among youth for ten years in Canada, the U.S., Hong Kong, and Columbia. He oversees a federally funded international research project involving collaboration among researchers in eleven sites on five continents exploring similarities and differences in how resilience is understood, studied, and nurtured. As part of this, he will soon embark on a tour of Israel, England, Russia, and Tanzania. He recently presented two papers detailing his work at an international qualitative methods conference hosted by Sage and the International Institute for Qualitative Methods. He has a well-established international network of colleagues in this field across many disciplines, and many will be contributors to this volume.

About the Author

Robert Wensley is Emeritus Professor of Policy and Marketing at the Warwick Business School. 

 

Professor at Warwick since 1986 and Chair of the School from 1989 to 1994, and Chair of the Faculty of Social Studies from 1997 to 1999. Most recently Director of the AIM Research initiative from 2004 to 2011. He was previously with RHM Foods, Tube Investments and the London Business School and was visiting Professor at UCLA (twice) and University of Florida. He was Chair of the Council of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations from 1998 until 2003 and a member of the Sunningdale Institute (2008 -11)

He is a Fellow of the British Academy of Management (FBAM), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM) and The Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS). He was awarded the BAM Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and previously awarded the 1981 and 1988 Alpha Kappa Psi prize for the most outstanding article in the US Journal of Marketing and the Millennium Prize for the best paper in the Journal of Marketing Management

He was appointed to the Council of the ESRC from 2001 to 2004 and was a Board member of the ESRC Research Grants Board from 1991 to 1995. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Warburg Institute and the Academic Advisory Board of the Chartered Management Institute. Over his academic career, he has been involved with consultancy and management development for many major organisations.

About the Author

Kathy Fitzpatrick is an associate professor of communication at DePaul University in Chicago, where she directs the master’s degree program in public relations and advertising. In 2005, Fitzpatrick was named the Wicklander Fellow in Applied and Professional Ethics. She teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations, public relations ethics, communication law and crisis management.  Her research focuses on issues involving public relations, ethics and law. Fitzpatrick is the co-author of Public Relations Ethics and Journalism Ethics (with Philip Seib) and the author of articles in  Public Relations Review, Journal of Public Relations Research, Journal of Mass Media Ethics, Journal of Advertising, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, Journal of Communication Management and Corporate Reputation Review. She is a licensed attorney, an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and a past president of the PRSA Dallas Chapter. In 2002, Fitzpatrick was elected to head the PRSA Educators Academy. She served for six years on the PRSA Board of Ethics and was a member of the task force that developed the Member Code of Ethics 2000. She is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society and serves on the editorial review boards of Journal of Public Relations Research, Public Relations Review, and Journal of Mass Media Ethics.



Carolyn Bronstein (Editor) is an Assistant Professor of Communication at DePaul University in Chicago, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on the cultural impact of public relations and advertising in a global society. Her research examines the role of the mass media in the social construction of women and women’s issues, with emphasis on mainstream news and advertising. She received the Nafziger-White research award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) for tracing the relationship among advertising trends in the 1970s, gender consciousness, and the development of the American feminist antipornography movement. Her work appears in a variety of mass media journals, including Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Journalism and Communication Monographs, and Journalism and Mass Communication Educator.

Although this is a scholarly book, it should be read by all public relations practitioners.

About the Author
Professor Carlton Cooke joined Leeds Met in 1990, whilst working as a principal investigator on the pioneering Allied Dunbar National Fitness Survey. He became a Reader in 1993 and Carnegie Professor of Sport and Exercise Science in 1998, followed by his appointment in 2004 as Associate Dean and Head of the School of Sport, Exercise & Physical Education. In 2005 he became the Associate Dean for Research in the Carnegie Faculty of Sport an Education, being seconded to the University Research Office to be the Director of Postgraduate Research Students for two years in 2006. Carlton was again seconded to the University Research office in 2009 to be the Director of University Research, until the appointment of the new DVC for Research and Enterprise in 2010. Carlton now leads research in the new Carnegie Faculty. His research interests range from physiological and biomechanical aspects of high level sports performance to physical activity, exercise and health in adults and children.

About the Author
Bob Algozzine is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina and project codirector of the U.S. Department of Education-supported Behavior and Reading Improvement Center. With 25 years of research experience and extensive firsthand knowledge of teaching students classified as seriously emotionally disturbed, Algozzine is a uniquely qualified staff developer, conference speaker, and teacher of behavior management and effective teaching courses. He is active in special education practice as a partner and collaborator with professionals in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools in North Carolina and as an editor of several journals focused on special education. Algozzine has written more than 250 manuscripts on special education topics, including many books and textbooks on how to manage emotional and social behavior problems.

Jim Ysseldyke, Ph.D., is Birkmaier Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, director of the School Psychology Program, and director of the Center for Reading Research at the University of Minnesota. Widely requested as a staff developer and conference speaker, Ysseldyke brings more than 30 years of research and teaching experience to educational professionals around the globe.

As the former director of the federally funded National Center on Educational Outcomes, Ysseldyke conducted research and provided technical support that helped to boost the academic performance of students with disabilities and improve school assessment techniques nationally. Today, he continues to work to improve the education of students with disabilities.

The author of more than 300 publications on special education and school psychology, Ysseldyke is best known for his textbooks on assessment, effective instruction, issues in special education, and other cutting-edge areas of education and school psychology.
