The Handbook of Critical and Indigenous Methodologies is the only handbook to make connections regarding many of the perspectives of the "new" critical theorists and emerging indigenous methodologies.
Built on the foundation of the landmark SAGE Handbook of Qualitative Research, the Handbook of Critical and Indigenous Methodologies extends beyond the investigation of qualitative inquiry itself to explore the indigenous and nonindigenous voices that inform research, policy, politics, and social justice. Editors Norman K. Denzin, Yvonna S. Lincoln, and Linda Tuhiwai Smith explore in depth some of the newer formulations of critical theories and many indigenous perspectives, and seek to make transparent the linkages between the two.

Review
"They cover much ground, but [...] for this reviewer, two types of essays stand out as particularly valuable: those that address fairly concrete issues and situations, and those written by individuals who inhabit more than one conceptual universe. There are ample examples of both categories." (O. Pi-Sunyer CHOICE magazine 2009-04-17)

perfect for Indigenous academics
By ANDREW L BOMBERRY
This book is perfect for the beginner Indigenous masters or PhD student. It compiles a lot of critical literature on Indigenous research and conveys it in quick, rich articles. If you're not a beginner Indigenous scholar, then you'll want this on your shelf as a handy reference and up-to-date evaluation on critical theory & Indigenous methodology. The book comes at a somewhat hefty price, but it is worth it. The time it'll save you searching relevant theory and shaping it to your needs is invaluable.
I'm not a writer from the book or involved in its publication in any way. I'm just using it to help shape and re-orientate my masters research to a more Indigenous, and therefore healthier & more community usable, framework and purpose. Happy reading!

Expanding literacy in qualitative methodologies
By Faye Harrison
I was pleased to learn that Norman Denzin and Yvonna Lincoln had collaborated with Maori researcher and educational leader Linda Tuhiwai Smith in compiling this anthology on indigenous and other closely related research methodologies. I had read and used the first two editions of Handbook of Qualitative Research, which covers a broad range of research styles and frameworks. The next logical step was to engage the work of indigenous knowledge producers, and Dr. Smith has earned an international reputation for this, especially with her book on Indigenous Methodology, which I have read and encouraged my colleagues and students to read. The Indigenous and Critical Methodologies anthology brings indigenous methodologies into conversation with other critical approaches to research that have been influenced by postcolonial feminism, critical race theory, and other "darkened" epistemologies, located at intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and nation. The essays in this book are thought provoking and well worth reading to push us beyond the often comfortable limits of what we know about research and the epistemic and sociopolitical contexts within we undertake it.
