Written specifically for students, this text integrates research, theory, and the practitioner literature and includes more than is found in the more prescriptive, practitioner-oriented alternatives. Providing an overview suitable for students enrolled in their first course in the field, the book also includes cases and discussions of advanced issues for those with experience.

Review
“The most comprehensive and current textbook available on nonprofit management. Essential for the classroom.”
(Robert Silverman 20081223)
"As a practitioner/instructor, I find your book enormously helpful and the feedback I am receiving from students is very positive. While each chapter is packed with information, I am particularly grateful for the journal articles and case studies that are linked to the chapters. In addition to the course content, I organized the course around a particular issue, domestic violence in Baldwin County, GA. I’ve had three people speak to DV and another six who match up with the chapter themes – an executive director, evaluator/assessment person, donor relations, community foundation CEO, grant writer, etc. visit the class each week. I simply want to thank you for Nonprofit Management: Principles and Practices." (Gregg Kaufman 20091230)
"Your book provides great coverage of many of the topics we address, and allowed me to dispense with a lot of readings as you covered the topics more clearly and thoroughly. I like that the book is well-grounded in research and experience, yet accessible to students. The class has been a big success and I look forward to using your book in years to come." (Jill Purdy 20090531)
"Great book! Perfect for all aspects of management." (Even Freeman Wakefield 20090807)

Great for beginners
By Nia Daniels
I bought this book by a recommendation from a friend. This book is gives you the basis of all that is entailed to start a nonprofit organization. It also gives you great resources to get more information from. From an operational plan to leadership, this book covers it all.
Unlike some nonprofit books, instead of the author telling the reader which is the right and wrong way to do certain things, like with a strategic plan, he gives you a variety of choices and lets the reader decides what is best for them.
He does not really go in depth in a lot of subjects, but he gives great advice and makes up for it in the other books that he recommends.
It's a great book for those who don't know anything about starting a nonprofit.

Small font a poor decision; otherwise a good textbook
By B. Gazley
I teach NPM in a university program and find this to be one of the better textbooks currently on the market. I'm planning on testing it with upper level undergrads this fall and abandoning the Ott I've used for years. However, I expect my students will find the small font as annoying as I do, so not sure I'll renew. If so, will have to go to Smith/Bucklin or some other outdated book, alas. With the demand for current NPM textbooks so strong (meaning, those that have kept up with legal changes and management research), I wish the editors had not cut corners by shrinking font size to cram in more text. After all, the goal is to get students to actually READ the text.

Nonprofit Management: Principles and Practice Review
By susanr03
This textbook was required for a course I am enrolled in. While it was very informational and provided details about the nonprofit sector, there was a lot of text and few pictures.
However, each chapter had a summary and a list of key terms which I found useful.
Overall, I would say that this book is well written for a student or anyone who wants to learn more about the nonprofit sector.
