About the Author

Karen Bosch, Ph.D. is a professor of education and the Director of Teacher Education at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Virginia. She has been awarded the Most Inspiring Faculty Award from Old Dominion University and most recently has become the recipient of the Virginia Wesleyan College’s Batten Distinguished Faculty Award for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and passion for inspiring others. Karen has also written the book, The First Year Teacher, which prepares and supports beginning teachers in their first year and more. She has published articles in Middle School Journal, Current Issues in Middle Level Education, Clearing House, Journal of Computing in Education, and Journal of Research on Computing in Education. As an educational consultant, she conducts seminars and workshops on classroom management and effective teaching practices. She has presented her research and her teacher preparation program models at conferences nationwide. She was formerly a public school teacher and administrator.

Great techniques for classroom management techniques

This is an excellent book for student teachers and new teachers. In a clear, step by step fashion it helps teachers develop management techniques and teaching strategies that really work! The worksheets help student teachers think through the process and also serve as a guide when they are observing expert teachers in the classroom. Once they have completed the guides - all of which are fully explained - they have a working document which can be updated as they gain experience in the classroom.

Great book!

This book was used to enable me to create my OWN classroom management plan. Bosch uses her knowledge to allow readers to assimilate their own personality into a useable plan for the classroom. Another great aspect to the book is the on-line questionnaire that guides students through the process.

About the Author

Dr. E. Alana James, received her Ed.D. in educational leadership from Teachers College in 2005.  Since then she has helped over 30 doctoral candidates in either educational leadership or business move through the process on to graduation.  Working primarily as supervisor for a number of online for profit universities, but also sometimes in the role of committee member, she identified the key places and challenges that created extra stress and, unfortunately, sometimes breakdown.  This book and her work developing DoctoralNet.com is in reaction to those difficulties and will, with adoption, increase graduation rates for those working towards a PhD or other type of doctoral degree.  You can follow DoctoralNet on twitter, facebook or Google +.

About the Author

Jeanne H. Ballantine (far right) is University Professor of Sociology (emeriti) at Wright State University, a state university of about 17,000 students in Ohio. She has also taught at several 4-year colleges, including an “alternative” college and a traditionally Black college, and at international programs in universities abroad. She has been teaching introductory sociology for more than 30 years with a mission to introduce the uninitiated to the field and to help students see the usefulness and value in sociology. She has been active in the teaching movement, shaping curriculum, writing and presenting research on teaching, and offering workshops and consulting in regional, national, and international forums. She is a Fulbright Specialist Scholar and serves as a Departmental Resources Group consultant and evaluator. Jeanne has written several textbooks, all with the goal of reaching the student audience. As the original director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Wright State University, she scoured the literature on student learning and served as a mentor to teachers in a wide variety of disciplines. Local, regional, and national organizations have honored her for her teaching and for her contributions to helping others become effective teachers. In 1986, the American Sociological Association’s Section on Undergraduate Education (now called the Section on Teaching and Learning in Sociology) recognized her with the Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching of Sociology. In 2004, she was honored by the American Sociological Association with its Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award. In 2010, the North Central Sociological Association awarded her the J. Milton Yinger Award for Distinguished Career in Sociology.

Keith A. Roberts is Emeritus Professor of Sociology at Hanover College, a private liberal arts college of about 1,100 students in Indiana. He has been teaching introductory sociology for more than 30 years with a passion for active learning strategies and a focus on “deep learning” by students that transforms the way they see the world. Prior to teaching at Hanover, he taught at a 2-year regional campus of a large university. He has been active in the teaching movement, writing on teaching and serving as a consultant to sociology departments across the country in his capacity as a member of the American Sociological Association Departmental Resources Group. He has written a very popular textbook in the sociology of religion, has coauthored a book on writing in the undergraduate curriculum, and for 22 years ran an annual workshop for high school sociology teachers. He has chaired the Selection Committee for the SAGE Innovations and Professional Development Awards since the program’s inception. He has been honored for his teaching and teaching-related work at local, state, regional, and national levels. The American Sociological Association’s Section on Teaching and Learning awarded him the Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching of Sociology in 2000. He was honored with the American Sociological Association’s Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award in 2010. In 2012, the North Central Sociological Association awarded Keith the J. Gwen L. Rudney, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Minnesota, Morris. A teacher of language arts and social studies at the middle school level for more than a decade, her teaching and research interests include classroom processes, teacher development, multicultural education, and working with parents. She has worked with student teachers and cooperating teachers in regional, national, and international settings. She is coauthor of Maximum Mentoring: An Action Guide for Teacher Trainers and Cooperating Teachers. She enjoys serving as the chair of the Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program. In 2004, she received the University of Minnesota, Morris, Alumni Teaching Award.

Good book for young clinicians!

This book was much better than I thought it was going to be. It's written in a way that's easy to read, it's helpful, and it's concise. I enjoyed learning from this book. It has practical information, so if you're used to working with sexually abused clients it may not be what you need, but for a young clinician with only a few years of experience having never worked directly with a client on their sexual abuse, this was helpful. It addresses many of the myths of sexual abuse and the therapeutic process of recovery.

I found this books to be really excellent. It was not a general,...overview. It covered all known symptoms found in survivors, showing how these theories were based on hard statistics. It was amazing to see how far-reaching the effects are of child-abuse. Although written for professional councellors, it could be read by lay councellors and patients alike. I would really recommend this book to anyone with any interest in the effects of child abuse and how to help them.

About the Author
Christine Harland is Professor of Supply Strategy, School of Management, University of Bath, UK. She directs the Collaborative for Research in Strategic Purchasing and Supply (CRiSPS) and is the co-founder of the International Research Study of Public Procurement (IRSPP). She has co-authored world-leading texts and case books in operations management and public procurement. She was President of the UK Health Care Supply Association from 2004-2011. Her current research is on evidencing and improving value in healthcare supply chains, and using public procurement to deliver broader policy and strategy objectives.

Guido Nassimbeni is Professor of Economics and Business Strategy at the University of Udine, Italy, where he is Dean of the Management Engineering Faculty. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Operations Management, Operations Management Research and Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management. His research interests are centred in the fields of purchasing and supply strategy, buyer-supplier interactions and relationships, internationalization of manufacturing and supply activities. On these topics he has published books and many articles in a number of leading journals.

Eugene Schneller is Professor of Supply Chain Management and Dean’s Council of 100 Distinguished Scholar, Department of Supply Chain Management, W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He co-directs the Health Sector Supply Chain Research Consortium. His book, Strategic Management of the Health Care Supply Chain, provides an assessment of the complex relationships linking hospitals, suppliers, distributors and clinicians. His current research has a focus on the transfer of supply chain progressive practices from a variety of sectors into health care.
